Brake NA1 - NA2 NSX Brake Upgrade |
| |
In 1997, Honda increased
the size of the brake rotors from 282mm - 300 and 303mm. This was done
to increase the braking performance with the addition of increased
horsepower. By increasing the rotor size and moving the caliper further
out to clear the larger rotor, the braking force increases and the added
rotor mass improves heat dissipation.
Until now, upgrading your NA1 (1991-1996) NSX to NA2 (1997-2005) NSX
brakes was a costly modification since the larger caliper brackets are
not sold separately by Honda.
Racing Brakes has engineered a direct-fit package to upgrade your NA1
brakes to NA2 size. In addition to having better braking performance,
the package also fills out larger wheels better.
All Racing Brake rotors offer these features: |
-
Patented
directional convergent internal vane design (front only
on one piece rotors). Dramatically improves cooling efficiency and
durability of rotors compared to standard straight vanes (including
factory and most aftermarket rotors). Internal vane design results in
cooler rotor temperatures (100 deg F drop is common) compared to factory
straight vane rotors.
- The rotors feature a unique ground
surface that improves brake pad break-in.
- The rotors are use a proprietary
paint on the non-contact surfaces to improve surface corrosion
resistance.
- In addition, the rotors are
available in a two piece design that improves cooling and decreases
weight where it's most important.
Racing Brake is the only manufacture to
offer a complete replacement caliper bracket. Racing Brake has
engineered ductile iron caliper brackets that feature increased strength
over the factory bracket and correct positioning of the brake caliper.
Other manufactures relocate the caliper over larger discs by using a
simple to machine flat bracket. This does not correctly allow the
relocated caliper to fully engage the brake rotor. Racing Brake
explains why this method does not function correctly. |

One Piece Rotors: |
|
|
 |
|
|
- Single piece cast iron rotor is less expensive to manufacture
while still using high quality materials.
- Front rotors feature curved
directional vanes for significantly increased cooling efficiency over
the factory straight vanes. Racing Brake is the only manufacture to
offer directional one piece rotors for the NSX.
- Proprietary paint on center and
inner rotor surfaces prevent surface corrosion.
|
| |
| Two Piece Rotors (best
performance): |
|
|
 |
|
|
- Consists of outer cast iron disc
with inner aluminum hub.
- Design results in lighter rotors due
to aluminum hub.
- Front and rear discs are directional
- curved directional vanes significantly increased cooling efficiency
over the factory straight vanes.
- True full floating -
allows the disc to expand and contract freely without stressing the
hat therefore prevents the disc from warping or cracking.
- Replace only the
rotor ring, the hat is reusable - although the initial cost is
higher, the operating cost over the time could be lower than
a one-piece rotor.
The Racing Brake two piece rotors are one of the best engineered
designs available worldwide for any car. To read more on the advantages
