RPS Single Clutch

RPS Single Disc Clutch

The RPS Single Disc Clutch is a new innovative design from RPS Performance using RPS's new patented segmented flywheel design. Unlike traditional 2-piece flywheels which use a solid steel ring fastened to the flywheel base, the RPS flywheel uses individual discs that allow for even radial thermal expansion. This increases not only the life of the flywheel but also lengthens the life of the clutch by maintaining an even friction contact surface.

The RPS clutch is also built around several features from experience with other aftermarket clutches. The flywheel has a machined groove around the perimeter that locks the pressure plate (outer cover) onto the centerline of the flywheel, insuring balance which results in increased reliability and smooth operation. The complete assembly is then precision balanced and marked to insure proper balance once assembled.

Rotational mass of the clutch assembly is dramatically reduced compared to the factory clutch (1991-96: 10.5 lbs, 1997-2005: 19.5 lbs) which results in a quick engine response and decreased horsepower loss from inertial loss. High clamp load pressure plate is rated in excess of 400 lb/ft of torque at static clamp load. This clutch is compatible with all manual transmission NSXes.

The RPS clutch includes pressure plate, high quality German made hybrid organic clutch disc, light flywheel, release & pilot bearings. Each component is replaceable for future service. 1997-on NSXes that were equipped with a thick flywheel from the factory require flywheel bolts from the 1991-1996 NSX (shown below).

optional clutch damper valve delete hose: hose eliminates the factory clutch damper valve block. Ideal for race applications where frequent clutch shifts may result in slower clutch operation resulting in reduced clutch life.

Stage 1: full face clutch disc, clutch rated at rear wheel 450 lb/ft torque. Street/track application. We recommend 100 miles of break in.
6puckclutchdisc.jpg (56208 bytes)Stage 2: lightweight 6-puck race style disc, clutch rated at 550 lb/ft torque. Slight increase in static grab of clutch disc. Still manageable for a street/track application. We recommend 500 miles of break in.
