The RPS "Stage 3" Twin Disc Carbon Clutch
was especially made for extreme horsepower applications. The clutch is
rated up to 700 lb/ft by the manufacture and has been used in
applications exceeding 1000 crankshaft horsepower.
The twin disc design uses a proprietary design which solves the problem associated with other clutches
using carbon for friction liners. Most manufactures (Exedy, Carbonetics,
etc.) use discs with carbon liners that mesh to steel. By allowing the
carbon surface to interface with steel, the extreme heat from the
friction transfers to the steel causing the steel surfaces to warp. By
warping, these surfaces can lead to rapid wear of the carbon disc. In
addition, this design leads to very static rough clutch engagement which
makes street driving extremely difficult.
The RPS twin disc design uses two discs with a floating mid plate that
features specially made high density carbon fiber surfaces on both the mid
plate and mid plate side of the discs. This enables the clutch to have
the extreme holding power required for high horsepower applications. On
the reverse sides of each disc (flywheel and pressure plate side) a high
grade organic / Kevlar liner is used. This design along with the smooth
carbon-carbon interfacing surfaces allow the clutch to have
very good driveability - something typically unheard of for a power that
has the holding power of this clutch.
The rest of the clutch features high quality manufacturing that the RPS
clutch is known for including a billet pressure plate cover and
flywheel.
This clutch is a direct fit application
for 1991-96 NSX. 1997-2005 NSXes will require the
NA2 NSX-R input shaft for
installation & 1991-96 flywheel bolts.
optional clutch damper valve delete hose: hose eliminates the
factory clutch damper valve block. Ideal for race applications where
frequent clutch shifts may result in slower clutch operation resulting
in reduced clutch life. |
