Custom NSX Transmissions

 
Custom rebuilt transmissions to fit your performance demands.

The NSX transmission is one of the most impressive works of engineering art found on the car. The NSX transmission is complex and highly precise. This precision demands skill and experience when rebuilding or upgrading to the gear options available.

Acura's policy of replace, not repair, has resulted in very few technicians in the country having both the skill and experience to perform proper work on the transmission. ScienceofSpeed has teamed with Basch Acura Service to offer rebuilt transmissions by the most experienced NSX transmission mechanic, Mark Basch. ScienceofSpeed keeps cores and gear sets available so you may order a transmission to your preference and ship back your transmission once installed. Please do not confuse our pricing for these custom fully-rebuilt transmissions with pricing for simple gear-installation.

In addition to customized transmissions, we also offer customers affected by snap-ring failure a special program for transmission repair.

gear options available

  • short gears: by modifying the gears on and of the mainshaft and countershaft, you modify the ratio of the gears 1-5. ScienceofSpeed offers the Honda Japanese Short Gears. These gears, standard on Japanese NSXes have different gear ratios allowing the car, especially between 1st and 2nd gear to remain in the VTEC powerband. This modification results in improved acceleration especially in the lower gears and improves the sportiness and enjoy-ability of the car.
  • final drive gears (ring & pinion): this gear set includes the ring gear, pinion shaft, and oil gear to modify the final drive gear ratio. This modification affects performance in all gears. The NSX from the factory has a final drive ratio of 4.06:1. Two final drive gear sets are offered. The Japanese-market high-performance Honda NSX-R is equipped with a 4.23:1 final drive ratio. Comptech offers a more aggressive 4.55:1 set. By modifying the final drive ratio, acceleration is improved in all gears.
