Adjustable cam gears are a prerequisite for modified engines. Adjustable cam gears serve two purposes for modified engines. In addition to providing the ability to adjust cam timing individually, they are a requirement for modified V6 engines with serpentine type timing belts such as the NSX. If the head or block surfaces are decked, the heads will move towards the crank centerline of the engine causing misalignment of the timing belt. Adjustable cam gears allow the factory timing belt to be properly installed.

The Comptech Adjustable Cam Gears feature a very unique design allowing the gears to be locked into place with a set bolt. Unlike other sliding type adjustable gears, this design will not slip over time. The NSX cam gears can not be easily inspected or adjusted once installed due to the fit in the engine bay. Since they can not be regularly inspected or adjusted with out removing the engine, it is imperative to have adjustable gears will not slip. While other gears may be advertised as "locking" the bolts that secure the gears can still loosen and cause slippage. These gears will not slip since they are secured with a set bolt. Slipping gears cause a change in timing of the valves which may cause catastrophic damage to your expensive engine. Gears are approximately 50% lighter than the factory gears.
