ScienceofSpeed Laminova Supercharger Intercooler

 
The ScienceofSpeed Laminova Supercharger Intercooler (aka Aftercooler) is designed for the ScienceofSpeed, Comptech, and CT-Engineering Superchargers. Using the innovative Laminova intercooler cores in a billet weld-free housing, the system is designed to efficiently cool the intake from the supercharger for increased power and reliability.
 

 
Laminova Intercooler:
The Laminova Intercooler is a patented revolutionary design that features a one piece extruded core that maximizes surface area with a circular cross section. Charge air passes around the core while coolant (separate from the engine's coolant system) flows through the center of the core. The design offers unparalleled efficiency and reliability compared to flat cores. The Laminova cores are now used in several OEM supercharged applications including the Cobalt, Corvette ZR-1, and Cadillac STS-V.
 

 
Billet aluminum intercooler housing:
The Laminova cores are installed in a ScienceofSpeed-designed billet aluminum housing. The housing captivates the cores with billet aluminum end caps that channel water flow for twin pass flow. Precision machined, the assembly is pinned and o-ringed for precision fit and seal. The modular design eliminates the need for welding increasing reliability. Further, the end cap fasteners are captivated so that if loosened, it is impossible for them to enter the engine. The billet housing is designed to countersink the cores into the existing intake manifold such that the height increase of the compressor is only 1.3".
 

 
Lightweight water distribution block:
The ScienceofSpeed Laminova Intercooler System includes a lightweight Delrin water distribution block. This distribution block attaches to factory locations to distribute water to the intercooler. High tech push-to-connect fittings are reliable and easy to operate.
 
ScienceofSpeed: Liquid-Air Installation Kit:
To allow the intercooler to circulate and cool the intercooler's water, a complete installation kit is offered. Installation kit's main components are front-mount heat exchanger, water pump, and water reservoir. All hoses and hardware required for installation are supplied.
 
 
Performance gains & testing:
By lowering intake charge temperature with an intercooler, the denser charge delivers more air mass to the engine allowing it to produce more power with less boost (pressure). The reduced heat increases reliability, safety, and emissions while decreasing fuel consumption from the engine.

The design was prototyped using computer model simulation. Real world testing has validated the design producing significant power and torque gains. By reducing the charge temperature up to 98 degrees, the intercooler has allowed an increase in power and torque by 10% (more than 37 horsepower on a standard ScienceofSpeed supercharger system). These gains were made with less boost at 7.6 psi.

Testing was performed using the identical vehicle and supercharger system with the only change being the addition of the intercooler:

67-98 degree temperature reduce at all RPMs
dyno testing:
37 wheel hp, 34 wheel tq gains with no pulley / boost increase
boost graph: 10% increase in power and torque with less boost
 
System requirements & notes:
The ScienceofSpeed Laminova Supercharger System is designed to be compatible with any ScienceofSpeed Supercharger System, and any Comptech or CT Engineering Supercharger System with the Autorotor 1.7L supercharger included (the Autorotor compressor can be distinguished with a machined housing as shown here).

The intercooler is raised only a modest 1.3". However, it is not possible to use the factory engine cover with this system. Also, targa NSX with the triangular engine braces are not currently compatible (a coupe brace may be substituted).
 
Kit components:
The ScienceofSpeed Laminova Supercharger Intercooler System requires two parts:
  • ScienceofSpeed Laminova Intercooler Kit: includes housing, end caps, cores, and water distribution block, drive belt, and all accessories for installation.
  • ScienceofSpeed Water Supply Kit: includes NSX front-mount heat exchanger, NSX reservoir, reservoir cap, water pump, hoses, fittings, and electrical accessories.
Compatibility:
The system has been verified for ScienceofSpeed 2.1L superchargers and Comptech/CT-Engineering 1.7L Autorotor based superchargers. Please contact us for availability with Comptech/CT-Engineering 1.6L Whipple/Lysholm superchargers.
