With 10 years of experience, ScienceofSpeed has designed,
tested, and put into use some of the most impressive NSX
engines. ScienceofSpeed has designed and built engines for applications varying between the street
driven NSX to the offroad NSX powered race car.
The factory NSX engine, with careful tuning and a well designed
supercharger or turbocharger system is capable of producing
approximately 160-180 horsepower over factory power level. Any
further, and limits of the factory engine is quickly realized.
We offer high performance engines for the NSX to bring it to
modern power levels and beyond.
our process: through in house research and development,
we have perfected the best formula of component materials and
design, machining and clearances, and assembly techniques. Each
engine is built in our climate controlled engine assembly room
where each component is measured and recorded as a part of our
blueprinted assembly process. In addition to the high
performance components used by ScienceofSpeed, each engine is
rebuilt using all new seals, gaskets, and bearings.
stages are rated by crankshaft horsepower capacity: to
help our customers match their power goals with the proper
modifications ScienceofSpeed offers three "stages" of engine
modification. These stages are rated in horsepower at the
crankshaft since power measured at the wheels can vary by
chassis dynamometer used. A 15% drivetrain loss factor (the loss
of power between what is measured at the wheels & crankshaft) is
used for a general guideline. Keep in mind that these ratings
are what the engine is capable of producing with the addition of
a properly designed supercharger or turbocharger system.
fuel requirements: in our experience, "premium" 91 octane
(rated by R+M/2) supports up to approximately 180-200 crankshaft
horsepower per liter with a properly designed turbocharger or
supercharger system (for example: a 3.2L stage 2 engine would
support approximately 640 crankshaft horsepower). For
applications requiring more power, a higher test fuel is
required.
suggested options: Each engine is assembled with a new
factory timing belt. In addition to the options available to
each stage, we also recommend considering the following items
depending on age & application:
ScienceofSpeed Lost Motion
Assembly Kit
factory water pump
ScienceofSpeed Billet Oil
Pump Gearset
factory timing belt
tensioner or ScienceofSpeed Locking Timing Belt Tensioner
ScienceofSpeed Oil Pan
Baffle

Engine Package Details:
Our most popular engine for
supercharged and turbocharged 3.0L applications. Engine designed for
factory 3.0L engines (3.0L cast iron cylinder sleeves are retained) for
up to 580 crankshaft horsepower (approximately 500 whp). Precision
blueprinted assembly including pistons, cylinder head studs, and new
seals, gaskets & bearings. Stage 1 includes:
components:
ScienceofSpeed forged low
compression piston set (pistons, rings, locks, & pins) with Xylan
skirt coating
MLS head gasket set
ARP head stud set
complete new genuine factory
cylinder head seal set, cylinder block seal set, bearing set, &
timing belt
Engine ideally suited for original 3.2L
engines & 3.0L engines interested in increased displacement and power.
Engine designed for either 3.0L or 3.2L engines (3.0L engines will
be increased in displacement to 3.2L) up to 650 crankshaft horsepower
(approximately 550 whp). See note on fuel above. Increased capacity of
up to 700+ crankshaft horsepower is possible with recommend options
below. Precision blueprinted assembly including pistons, cylinder head
studs, and new seals, gaskets & bearings. Stage 2 includes:

ScienceofSpeed Stage 2 3.2L Forced Induction Engine - NSX, all years (list: $10,410)
[enpp-2282]
$9,250.00
The ultimate forced induction
engine for the NSX. Compatible with either 3.0L or 3.2L engines, the
3.5L stroker engine is the ultimate engine for your high end
supercharged or turbocharged application! Not only is the engine capable
of 800+ crankshaft horsepower (approximately 680 whp) but it also
produces a huge increase in torque including increased compressor
response from the increased stroke (78mm factory stroke is increased to
86mm) provided by the 4130 steel crankshaft and connecting rods.
