ScienceofSpeed High Output Supercharger System for NSX
frequently asked questions:
How much power does the system
produce?
The system flows enough volume to support 500+ wheel horsepower on a
mildly built engine (such as the ScienceofSpeed Stage 1 engine
shown here).
On a factory engine, we limit the horsepower to 380 wheel horsepower
(approximately 430 crank horsepower or 120-140 over factory). The
system produces a very broad power band with good low end torque
making both street driving and track driving an invigorating
experience.
The system produces an almost instant 6 psi at 2500 RPM and
typically sees maximum pressure as soon as 4500 RPM. There's no lag
and torque is available even at low RPM.
Quarter
mile / 0-60 times?
Our goal in producing this kit was to increase the NSX potential in
acceleration to be in line with modern day performance cars while
maintaining the NSX durability and driveability. Based on
power/weight, the system on a factory engine is capable of mid 4
second 0-60 mph times and low to mid 12 second quarter mile times
(comparable to Corvette C5 Z06). With a built engine, the potential
is greatly increased.
How
is this different than the CT/Comptech Supercharger?
This system is derived from the CT Engineering/Comptech Supercharger
system. It benefits directly from CT's development of advanced cast
/ CNC machined aluminum inlet and intake manifolds that allow a screw type
supercharger to be bolted to the NSX engine. The ScienceofSpeed
Supercharger System uses these same manifolds with the addition of a
higher capacity efficient 2.1L compressor and advanced fuel and
ignition system. New mounting plates and a pulley drive system allow
the use of the larger capacity supercharger. Due to the high
efficiency of this compressor, the ScienceofSpeed Supercharger
System utilizes an advanced fuel system that allows direct injector
ignition.
Due to the high capacity of the supercharger system, we highly
recommend a good header and exhaust (such as the Cantrell Concepts or
CT Engineering) system to be installed on the car.
The system is pre-programmed for factory 3.0L and 3.2L engines
however, it is required to fine tune the fuel system once installed on a dynamometer.
For many customers, the standard CT Supercharger System is ideal as it
offers bolt-on CARB approved performance.
Will
this system be CARB (California customers) approved? ScienceofSpeed does not expect to offer CARB exemption. The CT/Comptech
supercharger in its base form is CARB approved.
Does the system fit under factory
engine covers & targa shock tower braces? The (non-intercooled) system is compatible with the factory coupe engine cover and
all aftermarket engine covers offered by ScienceofSpeed. For targa
top NSX, we offer an optional engine brace and engine cover / targa
holder. Please see the intercooler page for specifics on fitment.
How
long does installation take?
Installation time is reasonable and
can be accomplished in approximately 12 hours.
Is it possible to retrofit my CT
/ Comptech Supercharger? Yes, if your supercharger has the bolted on top plate (which began
shipping in 2002). Please call for details.
