Cometic MLS Head Gasket

Cometic multi layer steel (MLS) head gaskets replace the factory head gasket. By using the same design as the factory gasket with a thicker inner layer, combustion chamber volume is increased. Increasing chamber volume decreases compression ratio. The factory compression ratio is 11:1. The reduced ratio with the recommended gasket thickness is 9.8:1. This reduced compression ratio allows more aggressive pressure and tuning for power levels up to 380 wheel horsepower.

ScienceofSpeed recommends a properly prepared sleeved short block with forged low compression pistons installed for power levels above 380 wheel horsepower.

ScienceofSpeed recommends the Cometic gasket in a maximum crushed thickness of .074" (2mm) to maintain proper camshaft alignment. This moderate compression ratio drop also maintains good throttle tip-in engine response. Other thicknesses are available - please inquire.
