New for December 2008, Hondata releases the new Dual ECU Engine
Management System for 2006-2008 drive by wire Honda S2000s (currently US
market 2.2L only).
The Hondata
K-Pro Dual ECU System is a fully functional engine management system
controlling fuel, ignition, VTEC, boost, and nitrous while retaining the
factory ECU to control the car's drive by wire throttle body, vehicle
stability assist (VSA) system, OBD2 diagnostics, idle speed, gauges, and
air conditioning. The Honda K-Pro is the only engine management system
that retains all these functions and does not cause the check engine or
VSA warning lamps to be illuminated. |

How the system works: |
|
The 2006-08 S2000 uses a complex ECU from
the factory that integrates many functions other than just engine
management. By Hondata using a dual ECU system, the K-Pro controls all
engine management functions listed below while the factory ECU retains
all other functions listed below. The system uses the factory ECU that
Hondata reflashes and a Honda factory derived ECU for the K-Pro engine
management. The system uses a provided electrical harness allowing both
ECUs to provide their respective function. |

Operating notes: |
The K-Pro dual was designed to operate
your car as safely as possible. In order to do this, we switch off
systems in the stock ECU that the K-Pro takes control over. This enables
the stock ECU to run without any error codes. No error codes means the
VSA (vehicle stability assist) works as intended.
As there is no communication between the stock ECU and K-Pro, the status
of the cruise control and air-conditioning, under control of the stock
ECU, is not conveyed to the K-Pro.
We were unable to get the cruise control functioning safely, so cruise
control is permanently switched off in the stock ECU.
With air conditioning in operation the idle speed may briefly change by
100 RPM when the compressor is engaged or disengaged.
Should the K-Pro need repair or maintenance, the stock ECU can still
operate the car by itself if the adapter harness is removed and you have
stock injectors. The rev limit is lower (7000 rpm) and VTEC disabled.

- Are there any other costs?
Yes. The K-Pro requires an oxygen sensor from an 2002-2004 RSX or
2002-2005 Civic Si. This is sold separately below.
- Do I need to change the sensors
like the 2000-2005 K-Pro
No. You don't even need to open the hood of your 06 + s2000.
- Why does the factory S2000 ECU
require reflash?
The K-Pro dual was designed to operate your car as safely as
possible. In order to do this, we switch off systems in the stock
ECU that the K-Pro takes control over. This enables the stock ECU to
run without any error codes. No error codes means the VSA (vehicle
stability assist) works as intended. In addition, the factory ECU is
required so that the immobilizer system may function properly.
- If I sell the car or K-Pro, how
do I return the ECU to stock?
The factory S2000 ECU may be converted back to stock for a fee of
$100.00 which includes return shipping. If this is required, simply
contact ScienceofSpeed
- How do OBDII Scan tools work?
OBDII and Honda factory scan tools connect to the stock ECU. They
will not register the status of systems like VTEC and the oxygen
sensor as they are switched off. This must be accessed through the
K-Pro datalogging. Note that the K-Pro is not smog legal, and for
off road use only.
- How are the ECUs mounted?
The dual adapter harness is designed to allow the stock ECU to
remain in the factory position and the harness then can be run under
the carpet along outer door sill and the K-Pro ECU placed under or
behind the driver's seat.
- May I supply the ECU for the
K-Pro conversion?
Please understand that there are two ECUs used in this system. 1.
the factory ECU from the vehicle and 2. a Honda ECU used for the
K-Pro ECU. Users may supply one of the following Honda ECUs for the
K-Pro conversion for a reduced system cost:
37820-PRB-A01 through A12 or 37820-PRB-305

The ordering process: |
- To install the Hondata system,
your factory S2000 ECU must first be reflashed by Hondata to prepare
it for use with the K-Pro.
- After your factory S2000 ECU is
reflashed, you will then receive the K-Pro ECU and wiring harness to
complete installation.

- On the day of order (by 2pm) you
will receive a pre-paid shipping label and form by e-mail to send
your ECU in.
- You will ship your ECU by shipping
the ECU in a well padded box using the pre-paid shipping label
provided including the supplied form in the box with the ECU. You
may drop your package off any UPS Store or UPS shipping depot. If
this is not convenient for you, UPS will come to pick up your
package for an additional $8.00 fee (request this when placing
order).
- Your ECU will ship to Hondata for
reflash. Hondata typically turns the ECUs around within 1-2 business
days.
- Standard shipping: Standard
shipping includes both inbound and return shipping as well as
insurance and can be calculated by clicking "local shipping cost".
Standard shipping is 1-5 business days each way depending on your
location from Torrance, CA (zip code 90503).
- Express shipping: For an
additional amount, we will upgrade shipping to overnight for both
inbound and return shipping. This amount is added to the local
shipping cost which can be calculated by clicking "local shipping
cost" below.
- Signature will be required for
delivery for the safety of your shipment.
