Traditional aftermarket forged pistons are not compatible with the
factory fiber reinforced metal cylinder liners. Mahle now offers a
forged piston with a proprietary skirt coating that allows these pistons
to be direct replacements for the factory pistons with lowered
compression ratios.
Mahle Piston Set (pistons, ring set, pins, locks) for factory cylinder (FRM
lined) cylinder block. Available in both 87mm and 87.25 final bore
size. 87mm is recommended for new factory cylinder blocks or blocks that
do not have any scratches, still have factory cross hatch, and are not
ovalized. 87.25mm is recommended for most used cylinder blocks. The
cylinder blocks must be honed to the factory procedure with the correct
hone and style.
Compression ratios are listed for F20C 2.0L engines, use of these
pistons in a F22C 2.2L engine will result in an approximate .6
compression ratio increase (noted in table below). Factory compression
ratio is 11.0:1 (US & EU markets).
The weight of the pistons has also been reduced, not only from reduction
in dome volume but also pocketing where material is not required. For
example, a bare factory piston weighs 356.4 g and a Mahle Motorsports
piston (part no enpp-2031) weighs 303.6 g.
Pistons are compatible with aftermarket connecting rods (with 23mm pin).
Factory connecting rods may be used, however, please note that the Mahle
pins must be DLC coated and the factory connecting rod must be honed to
.0011" +/- .0003" over the coated pin size. Please see
