3" Forced Induction Exhaust Systems
Ideal for supercharged or twin turbocharged
applications, the ScienceofSpeed 3" Forced Induction Exhaust Systems allow
increased flow with minimal backpressure.
A unique exhaust design was employed to provide a
3" header-back exhaust system. The exhaust system consists of
pre-muffler assemblies and the exhaust muffler assembly. The pre-muffler
assemblies, available ad catalytic converter
or racing test pipe assemblies, join factory location ball socket joints with the exhaust
muffler assembly.
This design allows the exhaust system to mount to factory and
aftermarket headers for supercharged applications and down pipes for
twin turbocharger applications.
We recommend this style of exhaust system for applications with power
requirements in excess of 400-450 whp.
Two choices are available for both the pre-muffler assemblies, and the
exhaust muffler assembly:
Both the muffler assembly and pre-muffler assemblies are required.
Exhaust Muffler Assembly: The exhaust muffler assembly is available in GT-Spec or R-Spec.
GT-Spec
Exhaust Muffler:
The GT-Spec is the quieter muffler design with an internal cross flow
perforated tube design. The tubing and flanges are 3.0" through out with
twin single wall 3.5" angle cut polished tips. All components including
tubing, body, internal perforated tubing, flanges, hanger rod, and tips
are constructed from stainless steel and are back-purge TIG welded. The
pitch is a deep baritone. At idle and cruising speed, the exhaust is
approximately 10% louder than a factory exhaust and 20% louder under
wide open throttle. This exhaust has little to no interior resonance
during constant throttle cruising.
R-Spec
Exhaust Muffler: The R-Spec Muffler is the highest flowing muffler design. With twin
straight unbaffled resonators, the system produces approximately 5% more
power at the same boost pressure compared to the GT-Spec Exhaust
Muffler. The tubing and flanges are 3.0" through out with twin single
wall 3.5" angle cut polished tips. All components including tubing,
body, internal perforated tubing, flanges, hanger rod, and tips are
constructed from stainless steel and are back-purge TIG welded. The
pitch is a deep bass. At idle and cruising speed, the exhaust is
approximately 20% louder than a factory exhaust and 50% louder under
wide open throttle. This exhaust has minimal to moderate interior
resonance during constant throttle cruising.
Pre-Muffler Assemblies:
The pre-muffler assemblies are the units that
connect the headers/downpipes to the muffler assembly. They are
available as a straight through racing test pipe or as high flow catalytic
converters. These assemblies use the factory ball socket flange on the
inlet, and a V-band flange and clamp on the exit. The tubing steps up to
3.0" and features stainless steel tubing and V-band flanges and clamps.
Note that straight through test pipes increase volume of the exhaust by
approximately 20%. Straight through racing test pipes are for offroad testing
use only and are not designed for use on emissions controlled vehicles.
Please note: Catalytic converters are designed for high pressure
high temperature forced induction use. They are not designed however for
systems that have air/fuel mixtures below 11:1 AFR. Systems not properly
tuned with air fuel mixtures below 11:1 AFR will cause unburned fuel to
enter the catalytic conveters causing ignition and elevated
temperatures. There is no warranty provided for catalytic converters
damaged from unburned fuel entering the catalytic conveters.
Compatible Headers / Downpipes:
Any aftermarket header system designed for 1991-99 NSX with
ball-socket type joints.
Factory 1995-99 headers.
ScienceofSpeed Twin Turbocharger System downpipes.
Please note:Both the muffler assembly and pre-muffler
assemblies are required. Please select one pre-muffler assembly
(straight-through tubes or catalytic converters) and one muffler
assembly (GT-Spec or R-Spec). Removing the factory catalytic converters
is designed for offroad use only.
