We've been very impressed with the shifting in our Zanardi edition NSX. The shift knob used in this special edition is the same found in the Type-S edition in Japan. This heavy-weighted T304 stainless steel shift knob feels excellent in the hand and the weight allows the knob to easily drop in to gear. This is by far the best shift knob we have ever used. However, at the $300.06 list price, it was hard to justify.

After testing with different materials and finishes, we've been able to accurately replicate this shift knob at a fraction of the price.

The shift knob is manufactured from the same T304 alloy that Honda uses. The shift knob is CNC machined from billet T304 - then ground, sanded, polished, then micro glass bead blasted to apply the easy to grip finish.

ScienceofSpeed measured the Type-S gear lever and determined that the gear lever is 10mm shorter than the standard NSX gear lever. We accounted for this difference by increasing the bore by 10mm (see photo below) in order to allow our Zanardi / Type-S shift knob to sit at the same height as the original Honda shift knob would in a Zanardi or Type-S.

Despite T304 billet being higher priced than 6061 aluminum used in our other shift knobs, we were able to produce the shift knob in quantity to allow the shift knob to be the same price as our other products.

The shift knob has a lip on the bottom that allows the shift boot to be secured to in order to keep the boot from sagging. This shift knob works excellently with the Type-S shift boot or the Type-R shift boot (click links for these products).
