May 23, 2022
ScienceofSpeed K20C1 Civic Type-R Engine Conversion - S2000, 2000-09 Frequently Asked Questions • What power and torque does this produce? The engine is rated for 306 BHP and 295 lbf-ft of torque with 91 octane (at the engine). In ScienceofSpeed’s testing, the engine produces over 300 horsepower and lbf-ft of torque at the wheels with HPD’s fixed-calibration ECU with 91 octane fuel and factory S2000 exhaust muffler and catalytic converter. Much higher output is possible with higher test fuels, including FlexFuel, and turbocharger and engine upgrades. Higher output requires a configurable ECU (a MoTeC M142 based solution is available). • What is included in the conversion kit? There are nine major components: engine, engine mounting kit, intake manifold adapter and intake kit, exhaust downpipe kit, transmission adapter & flywheel kit, engine coolant kit, intercooler, fuel system, and engine control package. • What clutch kit is required? The ScienceofSpeed transmission adapter and conversion flywheel for the K20C1 is designed to work with any S2000-compatible clutch kit capable of 300+ LBF-FT of torque. ScienceofSpeed recommends the ScienceofSpeed Sport 400 Hybrid Clutch & bearing kit. • What exhaust is required? The ScienceofSpeed exhaust downpipe terminates at the factory S2000 exhaust manifold flange position. This makes any catalytic converter and exhaust muffler designed for the S2000 compatible. A catalytic converter designed for turbocharger use is recommended, such as Global Emissions GESI part no. 50025 (2.5", up to approx 400 BHP) or 85030 (3.0", more than 400 BHP). • I have a 2006-09, what... ScienceofSpeed Fuel Pump Power Kit Test - NSX, 1991-05
February 1, 2022
High horsepower modifications to the NSX have become more common. Increased power increases engine fuel demands. With the introduction of high fow turbine fuel pumps such as the Aeromotive 340 LPH and Walbro 450 LPH fuel pump, customers have the ability to install a fuel pump capable of supplying high horsepower applications using the factory in-tank fuel carrier. Initial testing performed showed the Aeromotive 340 HP pump performing similarly to the lower capacity Walbro 255 HP pump with factory wiring. Upon investigation, it was clear that resistance from the factory fuel pump wiring was causing a voltage drop down to less than 11 V at the pump. The factory wiring consists of wiring between American 16 and 18 ga wiring. Resistance is further increased from the relatively long run of approximately 8 ft of wiring from the power source. Testing was performed using a twin turbocharged 1993 NSX with a maximum total gasoline fuel supply demand of 270 lph at 750 horsepower at the engine. Manifold pressure (boost pressure), engine speed, and fuel pressure were datalogged with the vehicle’s engine management system while being placed under hub load on a chassis dynamometer. ScienceofSpeed has developed a solution to supply sufficient current for a high flow fuel pump. fuel pump: Aeromotive 340 HP, fuel injectors: RC Engineering 750 cc/min, fuel lines, hoses, pressure regulator, & filter: factory Test 1: factory wiring This test was conducted with factory wiring. FAQs: ScienceofSpeed TVS Supercharger System
June 8, 2020
How does this system compare to the Comptech/CT-Engineering and CT-Engineering based ScienceofSpeed supercharger systems? ScienceofSpeed partnered with CT-Engineering in 2007 to develop a high-output version of the CT-Engineering System. The CT-Engineering system produces around 80 WHP and the ScienceofSpeed system around 140 WHP using a larger 2.1L unit. CT-Engineering closing its doors in 2018 required ScienceofSpeed to develop the key components from scratch but have allowed improvements most notably in regards to the intake manifold (click here for more technical details). The improved design allows increased flow, reduced pressure fluctuation, and an optional integrated intercooler. Improvements to the belt drive tensioner system, the ability to increase throttle body size, and a more advanced engine management system are other notable improvements. What horsepower does the system produce? The system is designed to produce up to 100 horsepower gains on the factory 3.0L and 3.2L engine and more than 175+ horsepower gains on mildly modified engines with supporting modifications (headers, exhaust, & intercooler). Will the kit be "plug-and-play" or will it require dyno tuning? It is our intention to offer a "plug-and-play" system that does not require dyno tuning and a full-featured system for modified engines and FlexFuel utilizing programmable engine management. More information regarding the system will be available soon once testing is complete. What supercharger is used? The system is based around the Magnuson Twin Vortices Series (TVS) 1900. This is an OEM quality supercharger with twin four lobe rotors featuring advanced noise abatement technology and an internal bypass valve... Read more

Technical Details: ScienceofSpeed TVS Supercharger System
June 8, 2020
With CT-Engineering's closing in 2018, ScienceofSpeed lost its supplier of components for the ScienceofSpeed Supercharger Kit. The loss of these positive displacement supercharger systems left a big gap in forced induction options for the NSX enthusiast. Now in development, the following is a technical introduction to the ScienceofSpeed TVS Supercharger System. background Positive displacement superchargers for the NSX are unlike any other forced induction system (centrifugal supercharger or turbocharger) in the way they generate instant, low-end torque. Positive displacement superchargers give the impression of small block V8 performance without giving up the 8,000 rev limiter - keeping the characteristics we love about the NSX, but amplifying the engine performance. The Comptech-based system had a number of advantages, including ease of install thanks to the bespoke inlet and intake manifold that allowed "drop-in" performance to the NSX engine. ScienceofSpeed partnered with Comptech when it relaunched in 2007 as CT-Engineering to develop a high -output version of the CT-Engineering supercharger. The ScienceofSpeed System utilized the cast inlet, intake manifold, and belt drive plate from CT-Engineering with a larger supercharger and more advanced engine management system to increase power from the 80 horsepower gain to over 120 horsepower. Although it was a great combination that produced over 120 wheel horsepower reliably, it had limitations for further expansion, including: Limits in performance due to the shallow manifold and inlet manifold designed for the smaller factory throttle body. A fuel system in the CT-Engineering System that was inadequate, and a fuel & ignition system in the... Read more

Have a Comptech / CT-Engineering Supercharger on your NSX?
January 10, 2020
The Comptech (later renamed CT-Engineering) supercharger system for the NSX was a popular option for the NSX while the company was in business. The kit has been in service since the mid-90s. The system produced about 80-90 horsepower and included a screw supercharger and a fuel system that consisted of a rising rate fuel pressure regulator, a voltage booster for the fuel pump, and in later kits, an electronic control module that would add additional injector time. The supplied fuel system pushes more voltage to the factory fuel pump to allow the fuel rail pressure to maintain 80-100 PSI. That's a lot of pressure for the factory fuel pump, and causes accelerated wear to the pump over time. Because the kit was a bolt-on, few customers would have the car tested on a chassis dyno after installation. More importantly, many NSXes have had the kit installed for 10-20 years, and have never had the NSX tested to ensure the fuel pump is still functioning properly. When the fuel pump begins to fail, which consists of slow degradation of performance, instead of complete failure, the fuel rail pressure can drop and not enough fuel pressure is maintained to safely fuel the engine. The NSX ECU, or the add on module, does not have the ability to correct the mixture if this occurs, that the loss of fuel pressure can result in detonation which may cause piston damage with time. ScienceofSpeed has seen examples of engine damage over the years from... Read more

New Tires & Power Loss? Insist on Road Force Balancing for your Second Gen NSX
November 27, 2019
Recently, a 2018 NSX was delivered to us for installing the ScienceofSpeed Liquid Injection System. This NSX has an aftermarket exhaust system along with the JB4 Tuning Box from ScienceofSpeed. During baseline testing, we noticed that power was down. Using the JB4 Mobile app, we were able to log variables like throttle angle and found the factory ECU was closing the electronic throttles by up to 25-30% even at factory boost levels. This was very strange considering the NSX was being operated essentially in factory form. throttle (orange) being closed up to 25-30% despite throttle pedal (red) at 100% We did notice that the NSX had Michelin PS4 tires installed on the factory wheels in factory sizes. Previously, we had an issue after installing the same tires on another customer's NSX. After the tires were installed with a standard match balance, a slight vibration could be felt at certain speeds. After speaking to the tire manufacturer, the recommended Road Force tire balance was performed, and the vibration issue was resolved. Road Force tire balancing better simulates the tire on the road for more effective balancing. More details can be found here. In a prior conversation with a Honda engineer at the Performance Manufacturing Center, the dedicated NSX factory, we were told that the chassis stability module on the NSX is sensitive to tire and wheel balancing. We were wondering if this torque reduction from the factory ECU was caused by the tires. After a Road Force balance was performed... Read more

ScienceofSpeed 2002-style wheels have begun shipping!
September 16, 2019
ScienceofSpeed is excited to announce that the 2002-style wheels have begun shipping this week. Our first batch of wheels was delivered today, and all customers who were in the first ten orders to commit have been contacted. We expect to begin shipping the remaining orders in about 3 weeks. This project has been a long term work in progress at ScienceofSpeed. The ability to offer a high quality forged wheel inspired by the iconic 2002-style NSX wheel has only been possible with the support from the NSX community and our partner, Titan 7. Titan 7's overseas factory is an OEM supplier with 10 ton forging presses, CNC mills, and automated paint line. State-of-the-art computer-aided design and finite element analysis was employed to not only produce an attractive wheel - but also minimize weight (17.4-19.9 lbs), increase rigidity, offer big brake clearance (Stoptech, & others), while ensuring required dynamic load ratings for the NSX. Standardized quality assurance tests were completed, including JWL testing protocol. Thanks to the community of NSX owners, ScienceofSpeed was able to commit to a large enough order to take advantage of this opportunity and bring "Forged for All" performance to the NSX. A few sets are available in the incoming shipment. For more details, please click here. Read more

ScienceofSpeed adds Liquid Injection to Second Gen NSX
May 31, 2019
ScienceofSpeed adds Liquid Injection to Second Gen NSX: As with any turbocharged engine, the performance from the 3.5L twin-turbocharged Second Generation NSX degrades after repeated acceleration cycles. With multiple acceleration runs on our Superflow chassis dyno it's normal to see the intake temperature sensor in the intake manifold increase by 40-50 degrees over ambient temperature. As the intercoolers and manifold heat up from charge temperature and radiant heat from the engine - we've observed engine performance decrease by 30-40 horsepower after six to eight back-to-back acceleration runs on NSX engines at factory boost levels. Increase boost pressure and increased charge temperatures result in 40-50 horsepower loss in only three acceleration runs. performance is reduced by more than 40 horsepower after three tests The dyno cell at ScienceofSpeed has three high-pressure blowers in addition to the cell's high volume fan. While this is a lot of air movement around the car, it doesn't simulate the same amount of airflow at speed in free air. Despite the increased airflow, similar elevated inlet temperature and loss in performance have been measured on the street and track. ScienceofSpeed began experimenting with liquid injection to supplement the factory air to air intercoolers. Using liquid injection, we were able to maintain the same engine performance after up to eight back-to-back acceleration runs within 2-3 horsepower. Inlet temperatures decreased to near ambient temperature even under load. Consistent engine performance achieved with liquid injection With the addition of the JB4 Tuning Box - we've been able to achieve... Read more

ScienceofSpeed Announces 2002-05 Style Forged NSX wheels
March 4, 2019
02 NSX style lightweight die-forged wheels, JWL tested, with modern flush fitment and high-performance features. The factory wheel offered on 2002-05 NSX are believed to be by many owners the most striking and fitting wheel for the NSX. They are popular to install even on earlier NSXes. Factory specifications (2002-05 NSX): 17x7.0+55, PCD: 5x114.3, CB: 70.1mm, forged alloy 17x9.0+56, PCD: 5x114.3, CB: 64.1mm, forged alloy The wheels are die forged and machine finished. Finishes offered include: BMW Silver (standard finish for US market), Washi Grey (optional finish for overseas markets), and Championship White (NSX-R finish). The wheels have an elegant appearance with seven even spokes, graceful arcs, and a slightly more concave rear design compared to the front which helps accentuate the NSX's mid-engined body lines. Typical for factory wheels, where certain standards such as rear spray in wet must be adhered to, the wheels have a conservative width and offset which many find to look "sunk in". A popular modification is to add spacers to space out the wheels 15-25mm giving the wheels a much more "flush" appearance with the fenders. The factory 2002-05 wheels can be expensive to source on the second-hand market and due to age and use, often have damage or paint defects. New factory wheels sold for over $8,870 retail for the set. ScienceofSpeed announced today the availability of a 2002-style forged wheel of ScienceofSpeed's design that maintains the elegant spoke design, but with a more modern flush fitment along with high-performance features such... Engine Tuning Product for the Second Gen NSX: JB4 Tuning Box from ScienceofSpeed (part 3 of 3)
February 22, 2019
In our previous blog posts, we've discussed engine tuning options for the Second Generation NSX. In the first installment of this series, we tested a device which intercepts the three pressure sensors on the NSX to increase turbocharger boost pressure. We saw the potential with this approach, but were not satisfied with the trade-offs - specifically the non-factory connectors that had to be held on with a zip tie, the unsealed enclosure requiring drilling in to and mounting in the trunk, and lack of integration to the factory ECU for important sensor feedback, such as coolant temperature and throttle input for engine safety and smooth boost delivery. Next, we tested an ECU reflash solution from Hydra. The results included limited gains of 5-20 horsepower. Hydra is working dilligently to better understand the factory ECU and will hopefully provide updated calibrations in the future. After these tests - we realized that an add-on device, which works in conjunction with the factory ECU's engine safety strategies, is likely ideal until the factory ECU is fully understood. The factory NSX ECU is complex and without documentation available, raising various torque limiters may have the undesired consequence of reducing safety protections including knock and lambda control and temperature controls. We feel that by raising performance while allowing the factory ECU to maintain control of fuel, ignition, and safety strategies would be the best solution for extracting more power while maintaining engine integrity. After some research, we began discussions with Burger Motorsports, manufacturers of the JB4... Read more

Engine Tuning Products for the Second Gen NSX (part 2 of 3)
January 16, 2019
This is part 2 of 3 into investigations of products to improve engine power output from the second generation NSX. Hydra Reflash: In part 1, we reviewed the VR Tune Box. This add-on device intercepts the boost sensors in order to trick the ECU to increase boost pressure. As we found, this approach has some limitations caused by the ECU limiting power by closing the throttles when it detects too much airflow from the increased boost pressure. The other method is directly modifying the software on the ECU in order to increase engine performance. This is made difficult on the NSX platform due to the unique ECU used on the NSX. The ECU incorporates two powertrain processors, one for the internal combustion engine control, one for hybrid electric motor control. Hydra Tuning was the first to release a reflash for the NSX. Installation: Hydra requires the ECU to be removed from the vehicle and sent in to be reflashed. This requires the engine covers to be removed from the engine bay so that the ECU can be accessed. The ECU is partially hidden under the rear frame structure and requires some careful maneuvering to remove. Testing: Before the ECU was removed, baseline testing was completed on the chassis dynamometer and street. Once reinstalled, on Hydra Tuning's suggestion, 100 miles were placed on the car to initialize the ECU. It appears that this process is complete within about 20 miles or less - and can be determined once the throttle bodies begin opening all... Read more

Engine Tuning Products for the Second Gen NSX (part 1 of 3)
December 24, 2018
This is part 1 of 3 into investigations of products to improve engine power output from the second generation NSX. VR Tune Box: This device attaches to the engine's turbocharger pressure sensors, manifold pressure sensor, and camshaft sensor. The device tricks the ECU to increase boost pressure by modifying the voltage the ECU sees from the sensors. The camshaft sensor input allows the device to change the voltage modification depending on engine speed. Because the ECU is unmodified, and factory MAF sensors untouched, the factory ECU is relied on for fuel mixture, knock feedback, and other engine control parameters. Because the VR Tune Box doesn't monitor if the engine is warmed up to add power, it has a built-in timer that must elapse before additional boost can be added. Installation: installation requires removal of the engine bay covers. Once the covers are removed, the right side turbocharger pressure sensor is accessed by removing the ECU (the provided instructions indicate to lift and pull the ECU upwards, however, to avoid stretching the factory ECU wire harness, we find it to be safer to simply unlatch the connectors from the ECU and remove it out of the way). Next, to access the left side turbocharger sensor, we recommend removing the interior sound inducer duct, then the valve. Even with these components installed, reaching the sensor can be difficult, so take your time and use care. Once this is complete, the remaining pressure sensor located on the rear of the manifold is easy to... Read more

E85 FlexFuel Tuning Strategies
December 10, 2018
E85, or FlexFuel, has become popular with performance enthusiasts. In addition to its environmental benefits, the fuel allows high performance engines to operate at higher cylinder pressures producing more power due to ethanol's charge air cooling and increased anti-knock properties. E85, or FlexFuel, is an abbreviation for a fuel blend of approximately 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline - however the exact ratio can vary significantly based on locale and season. ASTM 5798 specifies that fuel may be labeled as E85 even with an allowable ethanol content of 51-83%. ScienceofSpeed offers FlexFuel sensor installation kits for NSX and S2000. These kits make installation of the FlexFuel sensor easy to factory mounting locations. We also offer engine management systems for NSX and S2000 that are FlexFuel compatible, and come with base calibration maps for FlexFuel at no charge. Ethanol contains less energy by volume compared to gasoline. Having a way of monitoring the content of ethanol in the fuel to adjust for fuel delivery volume is critical for reliable operation of the engine. Vehicles you may have seen labeled with "FlexFuel" badges are supplied by the original manufactures with a fuel composition sensor. The sensor produces an electrical signal which varies depending on the content of ethanol in the fuel. For performance applications, due to the variance of ethanol content out of the pump, simply draining the fuel tank to switch between gasoline and E85 is not sufficient for reliable operation of the engine. Popular aftermarket engine management systems from AEM and... Read more

failing electrical components in first generation NSX
October 24, 2018
As the first generation NSX continues to age, failing electronics have become more common. The most common issue include PGMFI relay, climate control unit, and stereo amplifier unit failure. The typical climate control unit (CCU) failure symptom is the fan motor only blowing on high and / or the unit no longer powering up. The typical stereo amplifier failure symptom is popping and / or reduced volume from the speakers. Lately, new electrical component failures are being reported - and include issues with the stereo head unit, instrument cluster, and SRS unit. The failures in the climate control, stereo amplifier, and recently the stereo, instrument cluster, and SRS units are related to the electrolytic compound leaking from the capacitors. This electrolyte can damage the copper traces on the board as well as well as other components, including processors. The far majority of climate control & stereo amplifier circuit boards can be repaired. Repairs typically include repairing the traces on the circuit boards, as well as all components that can cause these types of failures. ScienceofSpeed offers to repair your unit, or, you can take advantage of our core program - where we will send you a core in advance to minimize down time. For more information on our electronic repairs: Climate Control Unit repair Stereo Amplifier Unit repair On rare occasion, the damaged caused by the capacitors can be too extensive for repair, and ScienceofSpeed will contact you if this is the case. CT Engineering Closes, ScienceofSpeed Supercharger System discontinued
October 11, 2018
Comptech has been a mainstay in the NSX aftermarket world since the early nineties. Later relaunched in 2007 as CT-Engineering, the Comptech products, including the popular supercharger system for the NSX, have been made available until last month at which time the company announced it was closing its doors. Since the late nineties, the Comptech supercharger system for the NSX was a solid choice for dependable power with only minimal maintenance required. ScienceofSpeed partnered with Comptech to produce a more powerful version of the Comptech supercharger, utilizing a larger 2.1L twin screw supercharger and stand-alone engine management. ScienceofSpeed has purchased some of the business intellectual property, however, this does not include the components from the supercharger kit. Because these components are no longer available, and the last set of components have been sold, ScienceofSpeed has made the difficult decision to discontinue the ScienceofSpeed Supercharger System. We are pledging to support our customers who have purchased supercharger kits from us for a minimum of five years from purchase date with wear and maintenance items that may be required to keep your system in operation. The core business was purchased and maybe relaunched in the future by a former employee of Comptech. Best of luck to the team at CT-Engineering in your future endeavors. For another reliable forced-induction solution for your NSX, check out the ScienceofSpeed Twin Turbocharger System. Read more

Fuel Tank Recall? Save on installation of ScienceofSpeed Downpipes
September 12, 2018
ScienceofSpeed applauds Acura and the Acura dealerships that are supporting the campaign to update the 2017 / 2018 NSX fuel tanks and thermostats. ScienceofSpeed Sport Downpipes transform the sound of the Second Generation NSX while improving performance. May we suggest making "lemonade out of lemons". There are two bulletins: B18-050 (fuel tanks + thermostat) and B18-053 (fuel tanks only). You should speak with your local dealer as to which your VIN applies to. Installation time of the ScienceofSpeed Sport Downpipes can be reduced if completed as part of the recall, especially if the technician removes the rear bumper and trunk box as part of the installation (see photo below). Components Removed As Part of Fuel Tank Removal Rear Bumper & Trunk Box Removed It is up to your local dealership to determine if they are willing to do the downpipes as part of the campaign. ScienceofSpeed Sport Downpipes are in no way endorsed by the Acura Division of Honda Motor Company, or its affiliates. We will keep a list of dealerships who are willing. The ScienceofSpeed Sport Downpipes improve the Sports Sound and performance from the Second Generation NSX. Compared to the factory converter set, the converters have a larger cross section, less restrictive substrate design, a braised and captivated core, and a higher precious metal wash density for improved emissions performance. The downpipe assembly is fully constructed from stainless steel, including machined flanges, and USA manufactured stainless steel tubing and converters. The ScienceofSpeed Sport Downpipes are the only design... Read more

Second Generation NSX Tire Talk
December 1, 2017
Pirelli Trofeo R The Second Generation Acura NSX is equipped with 245/35-19 and 305/30-20 tires. This is the ideal size for both factory wheels as well as wheels like the forged Titan 7 T-S5 from ScienceofSpeed. Tires for 19/20" wheels for the street: The standard factory tire is the Continental ContiSportContact 5P. This tire has a 240 treadwear rating. New to the market and available in factory sizes is the new Pirelli P Zero PZ4 model with a 220 treadwear rating. Also just out from Michelin is the Pilot Sport 4S. This tire is the replacement for the popular Pilot Super Sport. The treadwear rating from Michelin is 300 - however, Michelin seems to always "over-rate" their treadwear - in comparison, this tire is likely more like a 200-240 treadwear from other manufacturers. Tires for 19/20" wheels for the track: The factory optional tire is the Pirelli Trofeo R. This is a high-performance track & competition tire not ideally suited for the street in wet conditions where the tire will be more prone to hydroplaning. However, if you want the best for the track, this is an excellent choice. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires for 20/21" wheels: For 20"/ 21" wheels with factory width (8.5" front, 11" rear), the Pirelli P Zero & Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are available in 245/30-20 & 305/25-21. For wheels with wider widths (20x9.0 & 21x12-12.5) Pirelli P Zero & Michelin Sport 4S are available in 255/30-20 & 325/25-21. These tires do not rub if the proper offsets are... Read more

ScienceofSpeed Introduces Advan GT Premium for Second Generation NSX
November 20, 2017
ScienceofSpeed is proud to introduce the Advan GT Premium for the Second Generation NSX. Originally debuted on the ScienceofSpeed "NSX Dream Project" at the 2017 SEMA Show - the Advan GT Premium is the first aftermarket bespoke wheel designed for the Second Generation NSX. Designed and manufactured in Japan, the Advan GT Premium wheel is a true monoblock die-forged wheel. What makes the Advan GT Premium unique to the Second Generation NSX is that the die forgings were designed specifically for this wheel for the NSX. Unlike other wheels where forgings are machined down to different wheel designs - the die forgings were engineered specifically for the Advan GT allowing optimization of weight and strength. The Advan GT Premium has been built for ScienceofSpeed bespoke to the Second Generation NSX using NSX-specific hub centric bore, bolt center, factory bolt seats, and proper width and offset. The wheels clear the factory Brembo calipers without issue. The wheel is available in 20x9.0 / 21x12.0 in Gloss Black, Gloss Advan Racing Gold, Gloss Titanium, and Gloss Hyper Black with Machined Lip - a unique finish that shifts in shade depending on ambient light. The Advan GT Premium is available from ScienceofSpeed now for the 2017 Acura NSX. Click here for more details. Read more

ScienceofSpeed NSX Dream Project Debuts at 2017 SEMA Show
October 30, 2017
The ScienceofSpeed NSX Dream Project debuts at the 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, NV October 30 - November 3rd. The ScienceofSpeed NSX Dream Project will be on display in the Acura booth joining the NSX GT3 and newly released Acura ARX-05 Daytona Prototype. The NSX Dream Project includes ScienceofSpeed's Authentic Performance Enhancement components for the 2017 NSX - including upcoming products such as the iLIFT Pneumatic Suspension Lift System & ScienceofSpeed Liquid Injection System. Showcasing authentic performance enhancements for the second-generation NSX supercar, Acura has collaborated with ScienceofSpeed – established in 2001 – to create an aftermarket interpretation of the ultimate NSX. The "Dream Project" Acura NSX features optimized engine performance through liquid injection intercooling and free-flowing high-performance downpipes and exhaust, resulting in a combined 610 horsepower (+37) and 507 lb.-ft. torque (+31). A more aggressive stance is achieved with the ScienceofSpeed lowering kit and wider Advan GT forged wheels. To make approaching difficult driveways and speed bumps easier, ScienceofSpeed integrated automatic sensing suspension technology from iLIFT which uses patented sensors to automatically raise the front axle of the NSX two-inches when obstacles are detected. The Dream Project NSX features thoughtfully executed exterior and interior styling enhancements including a gloss black roof in homage to the first-generation NSX, a more aggressive GT3 inspired aero kit and custom interior highlighted by Recaro racing seats. What is NSXPO to you?
September 25, 2017
What is NSXPO to you? For us - NSXPO is a gathering of NSX enthusiasts and their special automobiles. But most importantly, a gathering of NSX family. This year, we reconnected with family for the 16th time in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin to partake of a very special pocket of the country that is home to the historic Road America racetrack and a hub of NSX greatness including RealTime Racing and the RealTime Racing Collection Hall. Over the years, you've trusted ScienceofSpeed with your business which in turn has allowed us to grow and support your community. We are proud to again return and participate as a major sponsor for the event. We reconnected with friends and appreciated all of you that shared your stories of how we've participated in the enjoyment of your NSX. There were eight NSX at the event which had rebuilt engines and transmissions from ScienceofSpeed. Over the years, we have taken a special joy in breathing new life into NSX to keep as many first generation cars on the road as possible. We had a special opportunity to rebuild Andy M's turbocharged NSX on a tight time frame before the event which allowed him to pick up the car the week before the event and drive over 1700 miles home, drive to NSXPO, and enjoy Road America with his NSX. It has also been a dream realized to see second generation NSXes as a part of NSXPO and we look forward to seeing more in the future... Read more

ScienceofSpeed Sport Downpipe Set & Race Exhaust Video
July 20, 2017
Looking to add downpipes to your NSX? We can not emphasize enough the importance of the factory heat shields that attach to the downpipes and exhaust. Because of the pocket in the chassis where the downpipes are positioned, there is very limited airflow in this area. In presentations given, the factory development team explained the challenges of heat management in this area. The ScienceofSpeed Sport Downpipe Set is the only design on the market that retains all four of the factory heat shields. This critical feature was one of the most difficult elements in the design of the downpipes while optimizing flow and acoustic properties. 3D scanning was utilized and multiple revisions were required to achieve precision fitment of flanges and heat shields. The ScienceofSpeed Race (Valve Delete) and the upcoming Sport (Valved) exhaust designs also retain the factory heat shields. Please find a video clip below showcasing the ScienceofSpeed Sport Downpipes and Race Exhaust. Please click for more product info. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cudIzeaiUsc Read more

Introducing the Revised ScienceofSpeed.com with 2017 NSX Catalog
July 14, 2017
The ScienceofSpeed Team is excited to bring to you our revised website and new catalog for the 2017 Acura NSX! With over sixteen years of specialization centered on the NSX and S2000 our company has evolved into the premiere provider of high-quality, bespoke performance parts and accessories for these unique vehicles. As part of our commitment to NSX owners we have been working on a heritage program to continue meeting the restoration and repair needs of the first generation NSX, and are excited to extend the same dedication to owners of the 2017 NSX as we welcome them to our family. ScienceofSpeed has been gearing up over the past three years in anticipation of the new 2017 NSX. Due to the complexity of the new hybrid powertrain, a state of the art all-wheel drive Superflow dynamometer was installed and we've added to our staff an automotive engineer who joins a team of seasoned industry professionals. ScienceofSpeed began the parts development program for the new NSX earlier this year by first studying the powertrain, engine, and electric motor control units to develop a testing protocol that we shared information about here. Once this was done, we began a parts development program largely prioritized by feedback from customers and our own experiences with the car. Today, we're happy to unveil our revised website - which includes many improvements recommended by our customers as well as the catalog for the 2017 NSX. The catalog includes twenty new performance and accessory products for the 2017... Read more

Powertrain Performance Testing the 2017 NSX
July 3, 2017
The technologically advanced 2017 Acura NSX has been an exciting platform for us to become familiar with. We would like to share some of the insight we have gained in our experience of testing the 2017 NSX should you decide to have your new NSX tested on a chassis dynamometer. Chassis dynamometer type: The electrified powertrain 2017 NSX utilizes a twin electric motor unit providing propulsion to the front wheels and a twin turbocharged internal combustion engine with a single electric motor providing propulsion to the rear wheels. An all-wheel drive dynamometer is required, and we believe that a mechanically linked system is required for the various electric control modules to work properly during testing. The engineering grade chassis dynamometer at ScienceofSpeed is manufactured by Superflow. The front and rear roll-sets are coupled with a mechanical driveshaft and feature independent load cells in the front and rear to measure front and rear torque split. The mechanically coupled roll-sets allow the car to be tested as if it was on a flat road and an eddy current power absorber can introduce load to simulate a grade or to hold the engine at specific engine speed and load points. Strapping Technique: Securing the car for safety and repeatable results is important. Before mounting the NSX on the chassis dynamometer, we remove the front and rear plastic brake ducts mounted to the lower control arms. These are mounted with M6 bolts, and only take minutes to remove. While this is done, the chassis... Read more

NSX Values Increasing
November 9, 2014
The NSX has long been a sound vehicle investment - aside from holding its value well - it's always been guaranteed to remind us when driving what a fantastic car it truly is. Especially recently, values of especially clean, low mile examples have strongly increased. We believe this is largely due to the factory that are very few analogs sold previously, or today, that pose a better performance value - especially when considering the unusual and extraordinary reliability factor for this class of vehicle. We have long been driven by offering performance parts that offer not only good value and durability, but also designs that minimize permanent impact to the car. While we believe that you should be able to modify your car to your taste - it's certainly nice to know that things can always be returned back to factory. Even our twin turbocharger system for the NSX is completely reversible! Despite being amazingly reliable - the NSX does require maintenance. Keep your NSX healthy and keep your investment strong by following standard factory recommended service intervals. ScienceofSpeed offers a full-service facility for NSX maintenance, and we'd be happy to discuss your needs. There are a few items which do commonly fail on the NSX. We recommend considering several components that we offer to maintain the NSX's reliable standards including window regulator retainers, door repair levers, window guide bushings, stereo amp repairs, climate control unit repairs, and ABS system upgrades. Have any other issues with your NSX you'd like... Read more

ScienceofSpeed Unlimited S2000 Project
October 4, 2012
White. There's a certain understated power and elegance that it possesses. A certain purity and balance as well - perhaps the reason why Honda chose it as the color of its classic F1 cars. Three months ago, ScienceofSpeed began the Unlimited S2000 Project - the construction of our Unlimited Class race car - and this balance was used as our guide. The car was built for NASA TTU / Super Unlimited - essentially unlimited race classes with each car being leveled by a certain power/weight formula. While built to be competitive, the primary purpose of this car is for the development and testing of a number of new forthcoming products by ScienceofSpeed for the Honda S2000. From powerplant to suspension, each product is being developed and put to the test on this rolling test bench. The products in development are not necessarily only race car parts - but are being tested in the most demanding environment we can think of. The goal for the car was a curb weight of 2600 lbs (2780 with driver), capable of 500 bhp. With open aerodynamics modifications allowed, J's Racing new Type-GT Aero Kit was selected. This widebody would allow the addition of 10.5" wide wheels and 280mm wide tires. ScienceofSpeed's new prototype TS-MAX twin scroll ball bearing turbocharger system produces 500 bhp and is put down through Ray's new Gram Lights 57Xtreme wheels with Yokohama A005 slick tires. Engine and charge cooling is courtesy of ScienceofSpeed's V-mount intercooler/radiator. Wheel motion control is being... Read more

ScienceofSpeed to compete in 2012 Modified Magazine Tuner Shootout
February 18, 2012
ScienceofSpeed has been invited to compete in the 2012 Modified Magazine Tuner Shootout. This year, there's a twist! Entrants must bring street cars to the competition - in addition to the normal road course, autocross, drag race, and dyno session, cars will also be tested for emissions and sound quality. Tires will also be changed from prior years - this year, the spec tire is the Continental ExtremeContact DW - a 340 treadwear all-season tire. Not something that you'd really ever see used for track use. This will likely be a challenge for drivers to keep the traction to the road - and should make things pretty interesting! We will be competing with our twin turbocharged 92 Acura NSX. The event is at the end of March - preparations are underway to make the event! Read more

ScienceofSpeed, NSX and S2000 Performance Specialists, competes in Modified Magazine’s 2011 Tuner Shootout at Firebird International Raceway
April 11, 2011
The Modified Magazine Tuner Shootout event consists of four stages of tests including dyno, quarter mile, high speed autocross, and a time attack road course. The event is sponsored by Continental Tires, - which provided the Continental Grand Am tire - as the spec tire required for use by all competitors. ScienceofSpeed entered two vehicles into the competition: ScienceofSpeed's 1992 Acura NSX and 2005 Honda S2000. The NSX is powered by a high compression 3.5L engine with individual throttles producing 450 bhp and the S2000 is ScienceofSpeed's new test vehicle for S2000 products. Both vehicles utilize JRZ suspensions. Mike Spec piloted the NSX and Chris Willson, ScienceofSpeed General Manager, drove the S2000. Chris Willson has this report from the event: This is the second time for ScienceofSpeed to compete in Modified Magazine's Tuner Shootout. The last event we participated in was in 2009. Our NSX's powerplant has dramatically changed since 2009. The car now is powered by a high compression ScienceofSpeed 3.5L engine which features our new stroked crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons, as well as high lift camshaft. The engine is fed by ScienceofSpeed individual throttle bodies. Despite producing 450 bhp, we knew the car would be at a slight power disadvantage in this event due to its format. Unlike typical racing, there is no power limit or power to weight limit. In fact, the higher the power, the more points are rewarded. From past experience, we expected most of the cars to be turbocharged making in excess of... Read more

thank you for joining ScienceofSpeed to contibute to the Japanese disaster relief
March 6, 2011
We feel very fortunate that over the past ten years we've been able return a portion of our earnings back to our customers and the community in general. We appreciate our customers continued business and support - and giving back only feels natural. In addition to ScienceofSpeed being a title sponsor for nine of the last NSX Club of America NSXPOs and several other NSX & S2000 club events to benefit our customers - we've recently had the opportunity to give back in the way of making a contribution to the Red Cross for Japanese disaster relief. We joined with the NSX Club of America to also host a benefit auction for a ScienceofSpeed Twin Turbocharger System in which the auction proceeds were able to provide benefit to five NSX Club of Japan members directly affected by the disasters in Japan- which you can read more about here: http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147384 We know many of you have also contributed to charitable organizations to benefit those affected by these disasters, and many also contributed to the NSX Club of Japan to assist its members.
