Developed from our NSX Sport Clutch Program, the S2000 Sport 400 Hybrid Clutch Kit is the synthesis of high torque capacity and smooth engagement.

Since 2002, ScienceofSpeed has been selling and installing various aftermarket clutches for the S2000. In our experience, aftermarket clutches have often had too stiff pedal pressure or too harsh of engagement. Based on our popular S2000 Sport 325 Clutch Kit - with more than 500 clutches installed in S2000s around the world - the 400 Hybrid a unique organic / cera-metallic disc facing design to achieve high torque capacity with excellent driving characteristics.

The clutch is an important interface to your car. If the clutch is difficult to press, or difficult to engage, the enjoyment in driving the car suffers. The ScienceofSpeed Sport Clutch uses a pressure plate design that is very similar to the factory clutch - only minimally firmer, it gives an increased sporty feel. With the addition of the high performance "hybrid" friction liner - an organic steel-backed facing engages with the pressure plate first achieving smooth engagement before the disc fully engages with the high capacity ceramic friction liner.

The ScienceofSpeed Sport 400 Hybrid Clutch for Honda S2000 is rated for applications up to 400 lb/ft at the flywheel (approximately 500 wheel horsepower) - making it ideal for high power supercharged or turbocharged engines. Increased torque capacity is achieved using a pressure plate with an increased clamp force (33%) with a unique geometry that results in only a moderate increase in pedal pressure. Unlike other clutches, the ScienceofSpeed design incorporates a steel-backed organic friction liner that is bonded and fastened increasing burst strength for performance applications. The cera-metallic friction liner, which engages after the organic liner engages, uses a shape that increases pressure concentrated against the flywheel with a high temperature capacity cera-metallic compound. This achieves a high torque capacity with out requiring excessively high pressure plate pressure. For extreme applications above 400 lb/ft of torque, the ScienceofSpeed Billet Twin Carbon Clutch is available.

quality:

There are some very significant differences between the components utilized in the ScienceofSpeed Sport Clutch and other aftermarket clutches. In our experience, the components used in other manufacture's aftermarket clutches have been inconsistent with clamping force varying up to 20%. Visible short cuts in materials, design, and assembly have been evident. The ScienceofSpeed Sport 400 Hybrid Clutch uses high quality friction facings including a steel backed heavy duty organic friction facing.
