The ScienceofSpeed High Flow Surge Tank System was designed to solve two problems: high horsepower fuel demand requiring one or more pumps and fuel starvation caused during high G acceleration and cornering. The system was designed and tested through a full year long race season in ScienceofSpeed's top finishing Unlimited S2000.
big power requires big fuel demand:
"Dual pump hangers" in the factory fuel tank do not solve fuel starvation problems during high G acceleration and cornering. The ScienceofSpeed High Flow Surge Tank solves both big fuel demands (capable of flowing more than 1000 HP of gasoline!) and fuel starvation issues. It's also perfectly suitable to a factory powered race car with an inexpensive single pump configuration.
The factory fuel tank is not designed for high lateral G force caused during cornering, especially with race compound tires. It is a common problem found on the S2000 caused especially during left hand corners where the fuel pump's pick up point, even with more than a half tank of fuel, can run dry, causing the fuel system to aerate and lose pressure. This has lead to engine damage caused by lean fuel conditions.
The ScienceofSpeed fuel surge tank can supply 30-60 seconds of fuel to the engine, even with complete loss of fuel flow from the fuel tank. The system works by utilizing the in-tank pump to supply fuel to a reservoir surge tank. This surge tank contains one or two pumps (depending on power requirements) which then supplies fuel to the engine. The surge tank operates independently of the fuel tank such that a buffer of fuel is available to the engine should the tank pick up run dry.
Full CNC machined billet aluminum construction eliminates possible weld failures.
Feed design requires less than 3/8" of fuel level left in the tank - allowing 30-60 seconds of surge protection, even if the fuel tank is completely dry.

The ScienceofSpeed Fuel Surge Tank is a universal design for nearly any vehicle. S2000 specific accessories are sold individually so that our customers may use their own accessories or accessories designed by ScienceofSpeed.

Two or three pumps are utilized. One in the factory fuel tank , and one or two in the surge tank. The in-tank pump feeds fuel to the surge tank at less than 10 PSI allowing this pump to operate at peak efficiency. The surge tank pump(s) operate at fuel rail pressure. The following are recommendations based on estimated fuel flow calculations. Your requirements may vary and should be verified against your system's requirements. The pump installed in the factory fuel tank is a different style than the pump installed in to the surge tank. NOTE: An upgraded fuel pressure regulator is required when using fuel pumps with a flow rate of 320 LPH or higher.

Mounting bracket kit:
Installations requiring removal of factory emissions control module is for offroad race use only, and should never be used on a vehicle regulated by emissions controls.
2000-05 bracket: this bracket allows the surge tank to be mounted in place of the factory emissions control module in rear of car. No drilling required, uses factory mounting holes. Bracket also allows universal placement on any flat surface. Includes high strength band clamps & hardware.
2006-09 bracket: this bracket allows the surge tank to be mounted in place of the factory emissions control module in rear of car. No drilling required, uses factory mounting holes. Use universal bracket if another location is desired. Includes high strength band clamps & hardware.
Electrical installation kit:
Single fuel pump wiring kit: used if only a single fuel pump surge tank will be installed and the factory in-tank wiring does not need to be upgraded (for using 255 LPH or smaller in-tank fuel pumps).
Multi-fuel pump wiring kit: used for either single or dual fuel pump surge tanks where the factory in-tank pump wiring will also be upgraded.
Fuel pump plumbing kit: Complete plug-and-play fuel plumbing kits. Includes all fittings, hoses, and accessories required for making the fuel surge tank plug-and-play on the S2000.
Single pump: includes four AN6 custom hose assemblies (fuel tank feed, fuel surge tank feed, fuel surge tank return, and fuel tank return), four SAE quick-disconnect adapter fittings, mounting clamp for factory feed hose, and breather filter for fuel tank. Includes high quality lightweight aluminum hose fittings and stainless braided E85 compliant PTFE hose. Mounting placement requires replacement of factory emissions control module - this kit is for off-road race use only, not designed for emissions controlled vehicles.
Dual pump: new tray completely replaces factory fuel tube tray with CNC laser cut assembly. Upgrades factory engine feed hose from 5/16" to 1/2" including lightweight AN8 E85 compliant PTFE / stainless steel braid reinforced feed hose & fittings. Upgrades factory return hose and fuel tank return hose from 1/4" to 3/8" including fluroelastomer E85 compliant return hoses & fittings.
